The Explorer Scout Young Leader program combined with being a MEMBER offers a YL a great way to help their two very important awards
- Duke of Edinburgh Awards – DofE (Bronze, Silver & Gold)
- Queen’s Scout award
How unique are you with these 2 awards
These awards hold a lot of credibility of a CV as only a very small % of the 18-24 population in the UK earn these awards. Over the last 10 years the number of 18-24’s in the UK has remain relatively constant at around 5.9 million.
In 2018/2019 only 12,648 individuals earned the Gold DofE which means just under 0.22 % of the 18-24 population earned this award. In the 2019 UK Scout census only 330 Explorers/Network members earned their Queen’s Scout award which means less than 0.01% of the 18-24 population earned this award. You can see with this statistics just how unique you become if you earn both your Gold DofE and your Queen’s Scout award!
The awards journey is illustrated in the diagram below. Note – It is far easier to earn your Queen’s Scout award by completing your the 3 DofE awards, along side the Chief Scout Platinum Award and the Chief Scout Diamond Award. If you are an Active Member of a Explorer Unit then these units will help you fulfill the requirements to complete each of these awards.
